Website Design Class

What you will learn in this class
In this class you will learn the basics of three programming languages – HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This may sounds daunting, but you won’t need to know every command in each of these three languages by the end of the class – just the commands you need to solve common problems on your website, and the knowledge of how to expand your programming vocabulary when you need to.
You will also learn:
- How websites are constructed
- The role of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- How to set up your computer as a web development environment
- How to access a cloud server
- How to use IIS (Internet Information Services)
- Basic programming in JavaScript
We have a “no student left behind” policy in these classes. If you feel the material is daunting, just speak up and we’ll help you. Our goal is to train a world-class workforce for Shasta County – we won’t give up until everyone gets it!
What you will do in the class
In each class there will be an hour long lecture on website design, followed by two hours of hands-on work with the principles we learn each day. At the end of the course, you will have present your own website to the class – coded with your own two hands!
Who should take this class
No coding or computer experience is required at all for anyone who wants to take this class. We can take you from zero to beginning developer in not much time at all, as long as you’re willing to work hard.
If you do have some prior coding experience, you may still find this class helpful, as you likely do not have the extensive knowledge of industry practices and techniques that we will teach you. Whether you want to launch a career on the Internet or just wish to understand websites a little better, this class can help you.
What you will need to bring to the class
Your own laptop. It should be capable of keeping up with current programs.
